Drop by the Sumo lure booth as they are introducing several new lures. The new Sumo JR in the gold finish should be a hit for the wahoo. Sumo will also introduce the new Sumo # 3s which are great for the barracuda.
Show hours are: 2-10 ., Thursday and Friday (March 3-4); 10 .-10 . on Saturday (March 4); and 10 .-7 . on Sunday (March 5). Adult admission is $12 and kids 15-and-under are free with a paid adult.
Derby time: The Marina Del Rey Halibut derby will have a booth at the Hall show. The 31st Annual MDRA Halibut Derby will be held on April 2-3, 2005.
The Marina Del Rey Halibut Derby is the oldest and largest fishing tournament on the West Coast. Best of all, proceeds go to help take thousands of kids fishing each year.
Trout tournament: Drop by the Santa Ana River Lakes booth to sign up for their March 12th trout tournament where hundreds of prizes will be given away, including a new sport utility vehicle and a new boat.
Santa Ana River Lakes will also have some huge trout on display in ice chests. Santa Ana River Lakes holds the California State Record for the largest Rainbow Trout at pounds.
Panama revealed: The 976-TUNA booth has a 60-minute action- packed Panama DVD for only $. With the purchase of the DVD, anglers get a 976-TUNA 20-year anniversary T-shirt for free.
Private boaters can save $50 on GPS location 976-TUNA memberships at the show.
Also, you can sign up to fish on some great charters and get a 976-TUNA membership card with tons of fishing benefits. Computers are on hand to show you how you can catch more fish in 2005 with up- to-the-minute GPS information.
Fishing in the NBA: It's great to see Brian Shaw behind the Laker bench again as an assistant coach. Shaw is an avid fisherman who loves being on the water almost as much as he loves being on the court.
"I could fish all day," Shaw said. "I just have it in my blood."
Shaw has done a lot of work for the 976-TUNA Youth Fishing Program and considers himself fortunate to be able to help kids go fishing.
"What's better in life -- kids and fishing," Shaw said. Shaw made a recent appearance on the TV show "Catch It" where he caught a 52- pound white seabass. You can see that show playing at the 976-TUNA booth at the Hall show.
Massive catch: Longtime Redondo Beach resident and former Torrance police officer Gary Lacroix landed an estimated 220-pound yellowfin at Clipperton Island on the Royal Polaris on Monday.
La Croix, an avid fishermen and captain of the charter boat Hi Liner out of Redondo Beach is on a 22-day trip out of San Diego. Clipperton Island is a tiny French-owned atoll off the coast of Costa Rica.
